Historical Context
The Alchemist is written by a Brazilian writer named Paulo Coelho. Before becoming a successful writer Coelho went to through some hard times and life changing experiences that helped to write his books. As a teen his parents wanted him to study law, but Coelho wanted to be a writer. Coelho admits that he was a hostile and isolated type of person at young age, because of this his parents admitted him to mental hospital to get him the help he needed.
At some part of his life he worked as a globetrotting hippie and during this time he published some books like Hell Archives. Coelho also served as lyric writer letter in some part of his life. He is known for writing lyrics for Brazilian musicians such as Elis Regina, Rite Lee and more. At this point Coelho had enough connections to be a successful lyrics writer and make a living out of it, but destiny had him pointed at different direction. He took a trip to Spain and made a great self discovery when he took a walk on a religious Christian pilgrimage route. This gave him the inspiration to write more books and to focus on his true hobby which is writing.
