Character Analysis
Santiago
The main character of the alchemist is Santiago. He is born in Andalusia and to a caring family that wanted him to become a priest one day, but Santiago decides to be a shepherd because he wants to travel through the country. While working as shepherd he dreams of finding a hidden treasure near a pyramid in Egypt. Santiago decides to follow his dream with help from a man named Melchizedek who is a king of Salem. Santiago is a curious boy and open minded. These characteristics help him discover his true treasures. Which are understanding himself and the omens around him.
Melchizedek
Melchizedek is the king of Salem. He first appeared to Santiago in the town of Tarifa. Even though, he is not in the book much Melchizedek kind of inspired Santiago to take the journey. He told Santiago about his personal legends, the beginners luck and soul of the world. Melchizedek gave Santiago two magical stones, one representing yes and the other no which is supposed to help him make the right choices throughout his journey. Melchizedek claims that his job is to help anyone who is searching for their own legend. He gives them inspiration to continue on their journey to find their legends.
Fatima
Fatima is the only female character in the book that gets a major attention. She is described as beautiful and willing person because when Santiago asked her to marry him she insisted that Santiago pursues and complete his personal legend. Fatima and Santiago first met at water well in Al-Fayoum oasis where she stays at. In the book Fatima truly loves Santiago and she knows that Santiago will one day come back for her after he completes his personal legend.
